With another year of the Toronto International Film Festival behind us, we are happy to reflect on a successful TIFF Party season. Our event team can take a deep breath and focus on a busy fall calendar ahead knowing that the bar for our TIFF parties has been raised yet again.
Working with Sony Pictures Classics for our 10th straight year, Starshot had the extra challenge of creating two entirely different event experiences on consecutive evenings. This year included post-screening parties for the highly acclaimed film Foxcatcher as well as the gritty hockey documentary, Red Army.
The Foxcatcher after-party was held on Monday, Sept 8 at Liberty Entertainment Group’s newly launched Citizen nightclub on King Street West. Riding a wave of Oscar-buzz during the film festival, Foxcatcher director Bennet Miller played host to the stellar cast and crew of the film including Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum. Holding court at the event were numerous celebrities and icons including surprise appearances by the jovial Catherine Keener along with Wayne and Janet Jones Gretzky. Guests at the party enjoyed the flowing Heineken, Absolut Elyx and Perrier-Jouët and gift bags including samples by Toblerone and Hugo Boss Men’s Fragrance.

A who’s who of the hockey world came out the following night to the Courthouse in Toronto for the official after party of Director Gabe Prolsky’s Soviet-era hockey documentary called Red Army. Party MC, Ron Maclean, took to the stage to share his insights and anecdotes from the era before introducing Canadian rockers, the Arkells to the stage. In a unique twist, the Arkell’s took a turn from their usual stellar set and brought the house down with their incredible Motown Review. Hockey legends attending the party included the likes of Dave Hodge, Gary Roberts, Darryl Sittler, Mark Osborne, Derek King along with representatives from the sports media and a host of current Leafs and NHL stars. A big highlight of the night included the Arkell’s calling Starshot Managing Partner, Brad Dalgarno, up onto the stage to close the show with some classic James Brown.
